Match Reports

3rd February - Lougborough (H) 1 -4 (L)

It was a very cold and extremely windy afternoon. The girls fought very hard and although under pressure a lot, coped well and Kat made some excellent saves. They scored two good goals in the first half which were lobbed over Kats head and she could do nothing to reach them, Chantelle made an excellent debut in defence and Aimee had a superb half at left back. We were 2-0 down at half time but hoping to pull this round in the second half. Emma Ellis scored to make it 2-1 and the scored remained at 2-1 until 10 minutes to go. A couple of decisions went against us and we lost 4-1 in the end but a creditable performance by all.

27th January - Humberstone Rangers (A) 8-1 (L)

The girls all played well and at half time were only 2-1 down and looking quite good. Unfortunately due to some defensive errors and then flagging towards the end, the final score was 8-1.

6th January - (A) 9-0 (L)

A cold frosty January morning to start off the New YEar. We travelled to Moira to play the top of the league MArlborough Rovers. The game started ok but unfortunately we found ourselves 4-0 down quite quickly. We didnt get into their half very often but were able to contain them better than we had done at home. At half time it was 5-0 but we had been playing into the sun and uphill so it was still quite encouraging. Kat had made some good saves and although despondent about the goals was not at fault. Second half we started very positively and did not concede a goal until 24 minutes into the half. There was some positive play and Demi made a few surging runs from the back. Jasmine and Emma Ellis dropped back into midfield and worked hard with Amy Clayfield. Emma Mackenzie, Lauren Peacock and Abbie combined on the right wing and made progress forward on a number of occassions feeding Aimee Bostock who had moved into the centre forward role, coming on for Kay after a short rest. Lauren Storer moved into the back four second half with Emilie Morris, Emma Mackenzie and Demi and made some good interceptions. The game finished 9-0 but the girls all tried hard and can be pleased with the improvement in their performance against a good side. They now need to gain in confidence and work hard in training to progress further.

18th November - Barwell and Burbage (A) 1-1 (D)

The conditions for todays match were far from ideal with icy rain and windy conditions. The girls warmed up well and made a positive start. We had a downhill slope first half and the girls took advantage of this pressing forward and winning numerous corners. One of which Jasmine crossed and Amy Clayfield knocked in to take the lead. Half time saw Weddington with a 1-0 advantage. The players were very cold despite their running and had to keep on the move to keep warm. Second half the girls put in a creditable performance and were unlucky to concede from a melee in the goal mouth. Weddington created several 1 on 1 situations in front of goal but unfortunately couldnt score. Both sides had their chances and could have taken the lead but on a very cold day the girls were glad to come away with a draw and get their first point in the Leicester League.

11th October - Barwell and Burbage Utd (H) 0-2 (L)

The girls were keen to get back on track after the heavy defeat of last week and started positively. The match was fairly even but Barwell and Burbage had the edge especially as they were not afraid to head the ball. Kat made some good saves and the girls battled hard to go in even at half time 0-0. The second half was much the same until the last 15 minutes when Weddington started to tire. Consequently Barwell and Burbage scored 2 in the last 10 minutes and deserved their win over the 80 minutes. However an improved performance from Weddington .

29th October - Marlborough (H) 0 - 11 L

Well unfortunately today we met with a very good side on one of our bad days, the two combined, lead to an 11 -0 loss.
We started very slowly and they started very positively so it was not long before the goals were going in, despite some fine saves from Kat in goal. We rarely got out of our half in the first half and when we did we did not push up as a unit and consequently were soon under pressure again. Amy Clayfield put in another good performance in midfield as did Emma Mackenzie in defence. Kat kept the goal tally down but although we improved in the second half we never really got going today and it showed that we had not played or trained for a couple of weeks.

7th October (A) 5-2 (L)

What a valiant fight the girls put up today. We had only 9 players, 8 and a half if you consider the injury Jasmine played with. Unfortunateley due to a netball clash we were expecting to be without Emma and Emma but late withdrawals meant we travelled with only 9 of our 14 registered players. Loughborough Foxes had their full 14.

The Foxes got off to a good start attacking our goal making the most of their player advantage but were regularly frustrated by fine saves from Kat. The girls fought valiantly but were 3-0 down at half time.

The second half started brightly with a superb goal from Emilie Morris from 35 yards out. Followed by Amy (Skip) and Jasmine combining for Jasmine to score our second. The girls didn't give in an although Foxes went on to score 2 more, they should be proud of their performance.

29th September - Brinklow (A) 6-1 (W)

We travelled to Brinklow today with 11 players and no subs but fortunately did not pick up any injuries. We got an early goal and settled into the game well. The first half was a good team performance. At half time there were many changes and a chance for the keeper to come out on the pitch. The second half started well and goals followed. The football could have been better in the latter stages of the game as players tried to get on the score sheet, however the game was won comfortably.

22nd September - Tasmanian Cruisettes (A) 3-2 (L)

The first game of the season was a very close match away to Tasmanian Cruisettes in Leamington. The girls worked hard and were only beaten by a late own goal after a dubious decision from the linesman. These things happen and despite the disappointment there were plenty of positives to take from the game.
