Saturday 26th April v Nuneaton Boys (A) 2 (H) 2

Nuneaton Boys (A) 2 Weddington Thistle (H) 2

Team: Joe B (Captain), Neo, Blake, Tom, Scott, Joe N, Harry, Dan, Jamie

On Saturday 26th, the Dribblers played their 2nd match against the Nuneaton Boys away at Tavistock Close.

The Dribblers got off to another slow start. With literally their first attack of the match Nuneaton Boys were through on goal and struck a shot in the bottom right hand corner which our goal keeper Scott stuck no chance at stopping.

Nuneaton Boys controlled the first 10 minutes of the game creating most of the chances with very few opprtunities opening up for the Dribblers and it was not long before the Dribblers found themselves 2-0 down after a cross from the right went across the Dribblers goal for a simple tap in by their striker.

Following the restart though the Dribblers started to work together as a team fighting hard to support each other. Joe B and Neo started to control the midfield with the defenders of Tom, Blake and Joe N clearing up any loose ball that came into the Dribblers half. Harry up front on his own received a number of good balls from the midfield and had several runs at goal only to see his shots saved or go just wide. However just before half time his effort was rewarded. Picking the ball up on the left had side mid way in their half, Harry had the chance to run on goal and drilled the ball into the bottom right hand corner 2-1.

At half time a number of substitues took place. Blake replaced Scott in goal and Dan and the Dribblers new signing Jamie came on to give Harry and Tom a breather after they had given it their all in the first half. The boys certainly had the belief that they could turn this game around.

In the second half the Dribblers dominated with Nuneaton Boys barely able to get out of their half and on the one occasion they broke through Joe N pulled off another one of his trade mark tackles to stop their winger as he ran on our goal and Blake was able to hold onto the one other shot they had on target.

Chance after chance came for the Dribblers - Jamie (what a signing he could be for the Dribblers) made a number of good runs from defensive midfield which he dominated through out the half, Neo and Joe B made a number of good runs from the left and had shot after shot saved by their keeper or shot just wide, Scott had a tremendous run from the right and shot just wide and then a goal seemed inevitable after the ball was crossed in from the right only for their keeper to just beat Joe N to the ball for what would have been a simple tap in.

However in spite of all possesion from the team and chances created the goal would just not come and a header from Dan in the midfield stopped a counter attack from the opposition.

Time to bring on the Dribblers star striker again Harry to run at their defence and with just minutes to go Harry picked the ball up on the right, beat their defender and fired the ball into the top left hand corner. GOAAAAAL!!!

What another fantastic performance by the Dribblers to keep their unbeaten record and if hadn't been for the performance of their keeper who was awarded man of the match the Driblers could have won this by 6 or 7 goals.

The boys are really developing their football skills to great effect and are ready to give any team a good game. Thanks to all the parents and the Under 7's for the support they gave to the team as well.

15th March 2008 - Stoke Golding U7's B (A) 1 - 2 (W)

A first game for some and second for others, following on from our under 7's, who lost to Stoke Goldings Under 7's A team before our match but with a much improved performance from their last match.

Our game started at a high tempo with both teams having chances to score. Neo was the Captain for this game and was covering every part of the pitch and when through on goal was only prevented scoring the first dribblers goal by a fine save from the Stoke Golding Goalkeeper.

With the game in the balance and Stoke Golding having more of the ball, tough tackling from Scott and Joe in the middle of the park stopped any serious posession in the Weddington Half and when they did manage to get through Tomas and Joe B were always in the right place at the right time to clear the danger.

Midway through the first half and the first real chance, a great display of passing and supporting from Stoke Golding with a finish that was applauded by everyone, 1 - 0 down but everything to play for. The remainder of the first half was played out with Stoke Golding slightly on top but a combination of determination and good saves from James managed to see us through to half time one down.

Second half and the boys soon realised that they had to kick the ball the opposite way, with free flowing football, great tackling, great support, great talking and great workrate by every player.

With Weddington well back in this game Joe and Scott won the ball in the middle of the park, Neo and Harry picked up the ball and ran at the Stoke Golding Defence beating 2 players before Harry calmly finished the ball past the keeper and into the bottom right hand corner. 1-1.

With the game level the boys started to believe they could win this game, Joe B pushing up to support the midfield a bit more, Thomas keeping a great position at the back clearing everything that got near him, Harry working back and forward, Neo being Neo working all over the pitch, James comfortably collecting every ball in the box and kicking the ball well, this was an opportunity for the dribblers to record their first win.

The second Weddington goal was worthy of winning any football match at any level, Harry picked the ball up in his own half, dribbled past one, then another and under pressure from 2 Stoke Golding defenders ran the ball into the area and drilled the ball into the back of the net.1 - 2.

With 5 minutes left everyone was on edge to see if the boys could hold on to this lead and finally after a sucession of Weddington corners the whistle blow, The dribblers had won!!

Today was a big leaning curve for both teams and what a great atmosphere for the boys to learn with spectators from both teams encouraging and applauding both sets of players creating an environment that left a big impression on everyone who attended.

We would like to say a big thankyou to everone at Stoke Golding and look forward to welcoming you to Weddington in the not to distant future.

Captain: Neo
Man of the match: Everyone

CHANGES AND FUTURE

Over the next few weeks we will be splitting the children into specific age group to further their development. Due to the very good response with numbers we are at full capacity for the group, but this split will allow us to take on extra children for the specific age groups and enable the children to train with the children that with be their team mates in the future. Please feel free to pass on our details to any friends that may also be interested.

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate every child for their listening and overall attitude since we started, which considering the age of the children is fantastic and will stand them in good stead for the future.

The way in which the children have adapted to the training has been highlighted in the fact that the improvement is on show for everyone to see, in such a short period of time every child has gained new friends, new skills and become part of a great group.

What more could we ask for over the short time since we started.

Well done to everyone.
